Vampiric Touch

Vampiric Touch was released in 1997 as part of the Portal set, a standalone product designed by Wizards of the Coast to act as an entry point for new Magic: The Gathering players. The artwork for this card was created by artist Brian Snoddy, who was a frequent contributor to Magic: The Gathering during the late 1990s. His work for the Portal set often leaned into a darker, high-fantasy aesthetic that utilized thick ink lines and dramatic shadow, a style intended to make the supernatural themes of black-aligned cards feel grounded and visceral for new players.
