Where it came from
Velomachus Lorehold was introduced in the 2021 Magic: The Gathering expansion Strixhaven: School of Mages, representing the elder dragon founder of the college of Lorehold. The design emphasizes the set's mechanical focus on instant and sorcery spells, embodying the college's scholarly pursuit of history and archaeology by allowing players to dig through their deck to cast powerful magic.
This specific promo version, identified by collector number 245s, features the distinct, stylized art typical of the set's showcase frames. The artwork was crafted to reflect the dracolich's commanding presence, blending the aesthetic of ancient academic scrolls with the high-fantasy dragon tropes iconic to the game. It was received as a centerpiece card, valued by players for its aggressive combat capabilities and its narrative role as one of the five powerful leaders of the Strixhaven campus.
