What it does
Eerie — Whenever an enchantment you control enters and whenever you fully unlock a Room, surveil 2 if this is the first time this ability has resolved this turn. If it's the second time, each opponent discards a card. If it's the third time, put a creature card from a graveyard onto the battlefield under your control.

Where it came from
Victor, Valgavoth's Seneschal was released as part of the Duskmourn: House of Horror expansion for Magic: The Gathering in 2024. The card serves as a thematic anchor for the set's aesthetic, which draws heavily from 1980s horror tropes and the concept of an infinite, haunted mansion. As a promo card, its design emphasizes the set's signature 'house of horror' atmosphere, intended to immerse players in a narrative where the architecture itself is a predatory, sentient entity.
The artistic direction for this piece reflects the high-fantasy yet eerie tone characteristic of the set's creative development team. By focusing on the figure of Victor as a seneschal to the elder demon Valgavoth, the illustration aims to evoke a sense of subservience and gothic dread. The card was received within the community as a mechanically distinct tool for players focusing on graveyard-oriented strategies, fitting into the broader design philosophy of the Duskmourn set which rewards interaction with the discard pile.
