Where it came from
Villainous Wealth was originally released in the 2014 Commander set, though this version appeared in the 2020 Commander series as part of the Sultai-colored 'Timeless Wisdom' or related product releases. The card embodies the high-mana, high-impact gameplay style encouraged in the Commander format, designed to scale with the game's progression by allowing players to exile cards from an opponent's library and cast them for free.
The illustration by Clint Cearley captures the chaotic, opportunistic nature of the spell through a swirling, magical visual display. As a popular sorcery for Sultai-aligned decks, it has been received by the community as a quintessential 'big mana' payoff, often favored by players who enjoy utilizing their opponents' resources against them during late-game turns.
