Where it came from
Vivien's Arkbow was introduced in the 2019 Magic: The Gathering expansion War of the Spark. The card represents a signature artifact belonging to the character Vivien Reid, a nature-focused planeswalker. Within the lore of the set, the Arkbow serves as a powerful repository containing the essences of extinct creatures from her destroyed home plane, allowing her to manifest them in battle.
The card was illustrated by Wisnu Tan, who aimed to emphasize the bow's ethereal and oversized nature, reflecting its mystical origin rather than a traditional weapon design. Mechanically, the card was designed to support creature-heavy decks by allowing players to search their library for creatures, reinforcing the thematic connection to Vivien’s ability to summon spirits from her bow. It was received by the player base as a versatile tool for green-aligned strategies in various formats.
