Provenance

Where it came from

The Vorpal Sword card was released in 2021 as part of the Magic: The Gathering expansion Adventures in the Forgotten Realms, which marked the first time the trading card game integrated the lore of Dungeons & Dragons. Designed to replicate the iconic legendary weapon from tabletop gaming, the card utilizes a unique mechanics suite to simulate the sword's reputation for sudden, decisive lethality in combat.

The illustration was rendered by artist Titus Lunter, who emphasized a dark, ethereal aesthetic to capture the weapon's foreboding nature. Within the set, this specific variant, numbered 124s, appears with the alternate art treatment provided to promotional releases, aiming to elevate the card's prestige for collectors who favor the distinct visual style of Dungeons & Dragons-themed artifacts.
