Where it came from
Wanted Griffin was released in 2024 as part of the Magic: The Gathering expansion set Outlaws of Thunder Junction. The set features a western-inspired fantasy theme, reimagining the game's multiverse through the lens of frontier outlaws and desert landscapes. Within the game's mechanics, this creature card represents the vibrant, dangerous fauna of the Omenpaths, specifically tied to the thematic aesthetic of stylized bounty posters that define the set's common visual language.
The card’s design reflects the set's dedication to pulp western motifs, utilizing the 'Wanted' poster trope to frame the creature illustration. The artwork emphasizes the high-noon atmosphere of the plane, employing a desert color palette that contrasts with the golden, ethereal nature of the griffin. It was received by players as a functional piece of the set's Limited environment, valued for its clarity of design and adherence to the thematic constraints of the expansion's artistic direction.
