Where it came from
Warchief Giant was originally introduced in the Commander 2015 product release as part of the 'Worship' red-white deck. It was designed to support the 'Experience' counter mechanic, providing a repeatable source of damage that encourages aggressive board states in multiplayer formats. The card features art by Mathias Kollros, who utilized a bold, high-contrast aesthetic to emphasize the imposing, elemental nature of the giant.
The card was later reprinted in the Commander Anthology Volume II set in 2018. This collection was curated to provide players with access to popular decks and iconic cards from the Commander format's history. Within the context of the Anthology, the Warchief Giant remains a utility staple, valued for its ability to provide reach in games where opponents have established significant defensive positions.
