Where it came from
Warhost's Frenzy was introduced as part of the Dominaria United expansion for Magic: The Gathering, released in September 2022. The card was designed to capture the flavor of the set's narrative, which focuses on the Phyrexians' large-scale invasion of the plane of Dominaria. It functions mechanically as a red sorcery spell, emphasizing the aggressive and chaotic nature of the conflict as the forces of Dominaria mobilize to defend their home.
The artwork for the card was created by Titus Lunter, a long-time contributor to the game's aesthetic. Lunter utilized a dynamic, visceral style to depict the overwhelming surge of soldiers and creatures engaged in battle, echoing the set's themes of total war. Upon release, the card was received as a standard utility piece for limited formats, noted by players for its ability to enable explosive board states during the late stages of a match.
