Where it came from
Warmind Infantry was released in 2013 as part of the Gatecrash expansion for Magic: The Gathering. As a common card representing the Boros Legion, it embodies the militant, red-and-white color identity of the Ravnica plane, emphasizing the guild's focus on aggression and battlefield coordination. The card was designed to support the 'battalion' mechanic, which rewards players for attacking with multiple creatures simultaneously.
The artwork was provided by the illustrator Karl Kopinski, who utilized a rugged, painterly style to depict the mechanical and militaristic aesthetic of the Boros soldiers. The design conveys a sense of disciplined fervor consistent with the guild's lore as the peacekeepers and frontline defenders of Ravnica. Upon its release, the card functioned primarily as a reliable utility piece for Limited formats, serving as a straightforward combatant that reinforces the aggressive strategies typical of its set.
