Warren Instigator

Warren Instigator was released in 2009 as a rare card in the Zendikar expansion for Magic: The Gathering. The set was designed around an adventure and exploration theme, introducing mechanics like landfall to emphasize the importance of the land cards themselves. This creature was conceived as a high-aggression goblin card, intended to provide red-aligned decks with a powerful early-game threat capable of accelerating damage through its double strike ability and the ability to cheat other goblins into play.

The card’s illustration was crafted by artist Kev Walker, a longtime contributor to the game known for his dynamic and gritty aesthetic. Walker’s depiction of the goblin emphasizes the chaotic, disruptive nature of the creature, fitting the lore of Zendikar’s goblin tribes who act as scavengers and troublemakers in the dangerous wilderness. Upon its release, the card was well-received by players for its synergy with tribal goblin decks, quickly becoming a staple in both competitive and casual formats that favor aggressive strategies.
