Welkin Tern

Welkin Tern was originally introduced in the 2008 Magic: The Gathering set Shards of Alara, designed to highlight the unique mechanical themes of the Esper shard. The card features the distinct visual style of artist Yutaka Li, who rendered the creature with an ethereal, clean aesthetic that became a staple of the set's blue-aligned cards. It was specifically engineered as a reliable flying creature with a restrictive casting condition, serving as a tactical tool for tempo-based play in the limited format of the era.

The card was later included in 'The List', a curated selection of reprints integrated into Magic: The Gathering booster packs starting in 2020.
