What it does
Valiant — Whenever this creature becomes the target of a spell or ability you control for the first time each turn, look at the top five cards of your library. You may reveal a creature card with mana value 3 or less from among them. You may put it onto the battlefield if it's your turn. If you don't put it onto the battlefield, put it into your hand. Put the rest on the bottom of your library in a random order.

Where it came from
Whiskervale Forerunner was released as part of the Bloomburrow set in 2024, specifically appearing as a promotional card. The set marked a departure for Magic: The Gathering by focusing on a plane populated entirely by anthropomorphic animals in a cozy, woodland-inspired fantasy setting, a theme that resonated strongly with players seeking a shift from darker high-fantasy narratives.
The card’s illustration was crafted to evoke a storybook aesthetic, reflecting the set’s emphasis on pastoral whimsy and folklore. This particular promotional variant, designated by the 40p collector number, was distributed through official Wizards of the Coast organized play channels to celebrate the set’s launch and showcase the work of contemporary fantasy illustrators who define the visual identity of the modern game.
