Provenance

Where it came from

Wild Nacatl was originally printed as a common creature in the 2008 Shards of Alara expansion for Magic: The Gathering. Designed by the Wizards of the Coast development team, the card was intended to represent the Naya shard, a lush, sun-drenched plane focused on creature-based synergy. Its design, featuring a low-cost, high-power potential that scales with the presence of different land types, made it a cornerstone of aggressive green-red-white strategies during its competitive peak.

The version from 'The List' is a reprinting initiative introduced by Wizards of the Coast to bring older, iconic cards back into the current player pool through randomized slots in Set Boosters. The illustration, created by artist Chippy, remains unchanged from the original. Chippy’s work was praised for capturing the feral, agile aesthetic of the Nacatl tribes, helping the card become a widely recognized emblem of early aggressive playstyles in the modern era of the game.
