Where it came from
The Wormfang Newt was released in 2002 as part of the Judgment expansion, the third and final set in the Odyssey block for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. During this period, Wizards of the Coast was focusing heavily on graveyard-based mechanics and the theme of cards being exiled or removed from play.
