Where it came from
Yahenni's Expertise was released in early 2017 as part of the Aether Revolt set for Magic: The Gathering. The card was designed as a powerful sorcery spell representing the Aetherborn character Yahenni, a creature type central to the narrative of the Kaladesh block. This specific version is a promotional variant, distributed through official Wizards of the Coast organized play channels to incentivize participation in local game store events during the set's release window.
The artwork for this card was created by artist Lius Lasahido, who focused on capturing the sophisticated, aristocratic aesthetic of the Aetherborn. The design intent was to showcase Yahenni's influence over the magical energy known as Aether, using a dark, elegant color palette that distinguished the card from the brighter, construct-heavy themes of the broader set. Upon its debut, the card was well-received by competitive players for its unique ability to cast lower-cost spells for free while simultaneously weakening enemy creatures.
