What it does
When Yukora leaves the battlefield, sacrifice all non-Ogre creatures you control.
It took ninety-nine monks to weave the spell that trapped Yukora. Upon the death of the ninety-nine, the spell was broken, and the demon returned to the mortal world seeking vengeance for its imprisonment.

Where it came from
Yukora, the Prisoner was released in 2005 as part of the Betrayers of Kamigawa set, the second expansion in the Kamigawa block for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Set in a world deeply inspired by Japanese folklore and mythology, the expansion focused on the conflict between mortals and the spirit realm. The card represents an oni, a classic figure from Japanese legends, designed to provide a high-power, high-risk creature that reflects the volatile nature of these demonic spirits.
The card was illustrated by Dave Dorman, a celebrated fantasy and science fiction artist known for his atmospheric use of light and shadow. Dorman aimed to capture a sense of intimidating presence and otherworldly menace, grounding the character in the dark, moody aesthetic that defined the block. Upon its release, it was noted by players for its efficient stats relative to its mana cost, though its significant drawback—requiring the sacrifice of other creatures—made it a complex piece to navigate in competitive deck building.
