Where it came from
Zidane Tribal, the protagonist of Final Fantasy IX, is depicted here as part of the Final Fantasy Art Series. This card celebrates the character's origins as a member of the Tantalus Theater Troupe, a group of traveling performers who moonlight as thieves. The design emphasizes his roguish charm and signature dual-dagger fighting style, capturing the distinct, slightly whimsical aesthetic that defined the ninth mainline entry in the series.
The card's visual composition reflects the evolution of Final Fantasy character art, moving away from the more gritty, industrial look of the previous two titles toward a softer, more fantasy-oriented style influenced by traditional European theater and folklore. It was produced as a tribute to the game's enduring legacy, appealing to long-term fans who associate Zidane with his themes of self-discovery and the importance of camaraderie.
