Where it came from
Zimone and Dina, card number 257p, was released as a promotional variant during the 2023 March of the Machine expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. This set served as the climactic conclusion to the multi-year Phyrexian Invasion story arc, depicting the desperate defense of the multiverse against the biomechanical invaders. The card features a unique alternate-art treatment designed to highlight the collaborative dynamic between the two characters, who hail from the academic world of Strixhaven.
The artwork for this specific promotional printing was crafted to reflect the high-stakes cooperation between Zimone and Dina, emphasizing their shared magical expertise in the face of annihilation. As a promo card, it was distributed through organized play events and retail initiatives associated with the set's launch. It was generally well-received by players for its thematic resonance with the Strixhaven storyline and its utility within the set’s mechanics, which emphasize synergy between different creature types and mana archetypes.
