Where it came from
This anthology comic emerged from the robust market for 'villainess' literature within Japanese light novel and manga circles, specifically targeting readers interested in subverting the common trope of the 'reformed' or 'punished' villainess. Published in response to the massive popularity of the Akuyaku Reijou subgenre, it compiles short stories featuring energetic, tomboyish heroines who defy the stereotypical mold of the passive noblewoman, opting for active, independent agency rather than traditional revenge narratives.
The volume features the creative input of various artists and writers, with Ishikawa Midori providing essential contributions to the series. The aesthetic focus remains consistent with modern josei and shoujo manga sensibilities, prioritizing expressive character designs and lighthearted, self-aware storytelling. It was received as a playful addition to the genre, praised by fans for its focus on lighthearted empowerment and for providing a platform for multiple creators to explore the 'otenba' or tomboy archetype in a fantasy setting.
