An Incomplete Life, originally titled Misaeng, began serialization in 2012 on the Daum Webtoon platform. Created by author and artist Yoon Tae-ho, the work was conceived as a gritty, grounded exploration of the South Korean corporate experience. Tae-ho conducted extensive research into the daily lives of office workers to ensure the narrative reflected the pressures of South Korean hierarchy, job instability, and the struggle to maintain personal integrity within a rigid professional structure.

The series is widely credited with catalyzing a social movement in South Korea, leading to the enactment of the Misaeng Law, which focused on improving protections for temporary employees. Its design, characterized by detailed character studies and a focus on mundane office politics, was lauded for its realism.
