Appare Jipangu!

Appare Jipangu! was serialized by Watase Yuu in the shojo manga magazine Sho-Comi between 2001 and 2003. The series emerged as a historical fantasy project during a prolific period of the author's career, following the massive success of earlier works like Fushigi Yûgi. Watase sought to blend the aesthetic conventions of the Edo period with supernatural elements, crafting a narrative centered on the young protagonist, Saki, and her discovery of a mysterious, otherworldly realm.

The character designs and visual style reflect the signature expressive techniques Watase developed throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s, emphasizing emotive eyes and intricate period-inspired costuming. While the series did not reach the same widespread global cultural ubiquity as some of her other titles, it was generally well-received by fans of the historical-fantasy genre for its imaginative world-building and character-driven storytelling, cementing its place as a notable entry in Watase's extensive bibliography.
