Where it came from
The Archive of Lovesickness is a manga collection by Ike Reibun, a prominent artist known for their contributions to the boys' love (BL) genre. Published during a period when Reibun’s aesthetic—characterized by intricate character designs and emotionally charged narratives—was gaining significant traction within the Japanese commercial manga market, this volume compiles stories that explore the delicate and often painful complexities of romantic yearning.
Reibun’s work is frequently celebrated for its balance between dramatic tension and fluid, expressive linework. In this collection, the artist sought to capture the visceral nature of unrequited or complicated affection, leaning into tropes established in the early 2000s while refining them with a distinct, mature visual style. The series was received as a standard but high-quality example of the era's character-driven romance manga, appealing to readers who favored deeply internalised character arcs.
