The Art of Fighting manga, illustrated by Etsuya Amajishi and written by Zenji Ishii, was produced in the mid-1990s as a direct spin-off of the seminal SNK fighting game franchise. Developed during the height of the 16-bit arcade era, this work was commissioned to capitalize on the massive popularity of the Art of Fighting series, which had introduced revolutionary mechanics like scaling sprites and intense cinematic storytelling to the genre.

The adaptation aimed to translate the gritty, street-level tension of the original Neo Geo title into a serialized narrative format.
