Where it came from
The Ascendance of a Bookworm Official Comic Anthology, featuring contributions from various artists including Kikuyarou, was commissioned to celebrate the popularity of Miya Kazuki’s light novel series. Released as a companion volume to the main manga and anime adaptations, it provides a curated space for guest mangaka to offer lighthearted, alternative perspectives on the life of Myne in the temple and her quest to produce books in a fantasy world.
The design of the anthology focuses on fan-centric storytelling, utilizing a variety of artistic styles to depict familiar characters in comedic or supplementary scenarios not covered in the primary narrative. Because the series centers on the love of reading and the physical nature of literature, these anthologies serve as meta-commentary on the source material’s themes. They have been received by the fan community as a testament to the franchise's expansive world-building and the collaborative nature of modern Japanese media production.
