Atashi ga Rena-chin to Date Dekiru Wakenaijan! Muri Muri! (Muri ja Nakatta!?)

Atashi ga Rena-chin to Date Dekiru Wakenaijan! Muri Muri! (Muri ja Nakatta!?) originated as a light novel series written by the author known as mind, featuring illustrations by Mutsuura Hatta. Published under the Shueisha Dash X Bunko imprint, the series launched in 2020 as a romantic comedy centered on the unlikely and humorous dynamic between the protagonist and the popular, peerless girl Rena. The narrative structure plays with classic high school tropes, focusing on the comedic impossibility of the central premise while developing the relationship between the two main characters.

The series gained traction within the light novel community for its lighthearted tone and the chemistry between the leads. Mutsuura Hatta’s character designs are central to the series' aesthetic, emphasizing the striking visual contrast between the ordinary narrator and the idealized Rena. The work was generally well-received by fans of the genre, leading to the production of a manga adaptation which helped broaden the series' visibility beyond its initial literary audience.
