Where it came from
Attack!! Ramenman originated as a spin-off from the immensely popular Kinnikuman series, created by the duo known as Yudetamago. Debuting in the mid-1980s, the series sought to delve into the backstory of the character Ramenman, reimagining him as a wandering martial artist during a historical, wuxia-inspired setting rather than the wrestling ring. The narrative leans heavily into tropes of traditional Chinese kung fu cinema, providing a distinct stylistic departure from the primary series.
The character design remains grounded in the aesthetic hallmarks established by Yudetamago, emphasizing exaggerated, muscular silhouettes and the signature facial features that made the original Kinnikuman cast iconic. When serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump, the manga was received as a nostalgic excursion for fans of the parent series, praised for its tonal shift toward historical action while maintaining the absurdist humor and dramatic flair synonymous with the creators' work.
