Where it came from
Bad Moon is a noted work by manga artist Ito Yukari, emerging from a period of experimental dark fantasy storytelling in late-twentieth-century independent manga circles. The series was conceptualized to explore themes of isolation and shifting reality, utilizing high-contrast ink work and sparse dialogue to create an atmosphere of persistent unease. It reflects a broader movement within the medium where creators began prioritizing psychological tension over traditional kinetic action sequences.
The aesthetic design of the volume reflects a deliberate rejection of mainstream shonen conventions of its time, favoring heavy cross-hatching and minimalist panel layouts. Yukari designed the series to feel disjointed, mirroring the fragmented consciousness of its protagonist. While it maintained a modest print run, it earned critical recognition among enthusiasts of avant-garde manga for its technical prowess and its departure from conventional narrative structures.
