Where it came from
Beast Taming: Starting with the Classic of Mountains and Seas, Sweeping Across the Globe originates from the popular trend of urban fantasy and beast-taming web novels in China, which has seen an explosion in multimedia adaptations over the last decade. Produced by Seven Rabbits Comics, this adaptation translates the narrative tropes of monster-collection and leveling systems into a visual medium, drawing heavy inspiration from the classical Chinese mythological text, the Classic of Mountains and Seas.
The design of the series centers on the integration of legendary creatures from ancient folklore into a modern, competitive setting. The creative team aimed to blend traditional cultural motifs with the high-stakes, action-oriented aesthetic typical of current webtoons, focusing on dynamic character growth and creature design. It has been received as a representative work within its niche, appealing to readers who enjoy the intersection of historical myth-making and contemporary progression fantasy.
