This volume is a notable iteration of the Low German Bible, which served as a crucial instrument for the spread of Reformation theology throughout northern Germany and the Baltic regions. Published in the early 17th century, it reflects the ongoing refinement of Martin Luther’s translation, intended to make the scriptures accessible to common speakers of the Low German dialect. The addition of concordances and chronological registers was a common pedagogical strategy of the period, designed to assist clergy and lay readers alike in cross-referencing theological concepts and contextualizing biblical history.

The editorial work of P. Kradel signifies the period's commitment to scholarly accuracy in liturgical texts. By incorporating updated corrections and comprehensive indices, Kradel’s edition aimed to stabilize the text while providing an enhanced utility for study. These editions were typically produced in centers of printing excellence, utilizing typography and formatting standards that balanced readability with the weight of the ecclesiastical authority they represented. The survival of such copies provides valuable insight into the material culture of the Protestant Reformation and the standardization of religious literature in vernacular languages.
