Bibliothèque japonaise: catalogue raisonné des livres et des manuscrits japonais enrégistrés à la bibliothèque de l'université de Leyde

Published in 1896 by E. J. Brill in Leiden, this catalogue was compiled by Lindor Serrurier, who served as the director of the Rijksmuseum voor Volkenkunde. The work was commissioned as a comprehensive effort to document and organize the substantial collection of Japanese manuscripts and printed books held by the Leiden University Library, which has long been a center for East Asian studies in the Netherlands.

Serrurier’s catalogue is noted for its scholarly rigor, intended to provide Western researchers and Sinologists with a systematic overview of Japanese literature, history, and scientific texts available in Europe at the time. The design reflects the meticulous bibliographical standards of the late 19th century, serving as a primary reference tool that facilitated the academic exchange between Japan and the Dutch scholarly community during the Meiji era.
