Where it came from
The Bleach: Special One-Shot, written and illustrated by Tite Kubo, was released in 2021 to commemorate the twentieth anniversary of the original Bleach manga series. This 73-page chapter serves as a direct follow-up to the main storyline, reuniting readers with Ichigo Kurosaki and other key characters years after the conclusion of the 'Thousand-Year Blood War' arc. The project was intended to reintroduce the series to a contemporary audience while expanding the lore surrounding the spiritual afterlife within the manga's universe.
The official colored version of this one-shot utilizes digital coloring techniques to enhance the high-contrast aesthetic that Kubo is known for. By applying a vibrant palette to the intricate character designs and complex panel layouts, the publishers aimed to distinguish this special release as a premium collector's piece. Upon its digital release, the chapter received positive attention from long-time fans who appreciated the return of Kubo's distinct artistic style and the subtle shifts in character maturity presented in the narrative.
