Where it came from
Bleach: Gokui Meimei-hen, known internationally as the Hell Arc one-shot, was released by Tite Kubo in 2021 to commemorate the twentieth anniversary of the original Bleach serialization. Appearing in Weekly Shōnen Jump, this chapter returned to the series' established lore by revisiting the gates of Hell, a concept previously touched upon in the franchise's non-canon feature films but never fully explored within the official manga narrative.
The design and tone of the chapter reflect Kubo's evolved aesthetic, featuring refined character line work and a darker, more atmospheric approach to the Bleach universe. The narrative was crafted to bridge the gap between the conclusion of the Thousand-Year Blood War arc and a potential new storyline, focusing on the spiritual consequences of the series' past conflicts. Upon its debut, the chapter was met with significant enthusiasm from long-term readers who appreciated the expansion of the franchise's world-building and the reappearance of key legacy characters.
