Catalogue of the Astor Library: (continuation) : Authors and Books. E-K

The Catalogue of the Astor Library represents a monumental effort in 19th-century bibliographic organization, intended to catalog the extensive collections of the Astor Library in New York City. This specific volume, covering authors and books from E through K, was part of a continuation project designed to supplement the initial comprehensive catalog. It reflects the library's mission to provide the public with access to scholarly resources, functioning as a vital finding aid in an era before digital indexing.

Compiled by Charles Alexander Nelson, a noted librarian and indexer, the work demonstrates the meticulous archival standards of the late 1800s. Nelson was tasked with the rigorous challenge of maintaining consistency and accuracy across a massive influx of new acquisitions. The design follows standard library cataloging conventions of the time, prioritizing clarity and ease of reference for researchers navigating the library's expanding shelves.
