Chartes et documents de l'abbaye de Saint-Pierre au mont Blandin à Gand depuis sa fondation jusqu'à sa suppression: avec une introduction historique

Published in 1868, this scholarly volume was compiled by the Belgian archivist and historian Auguste Van Lokeren. The work was commissioned as a comprehensive resource for the history of the Abbey of Saint Peter at Mount Blandin in Ghent, one of the oldest and most influential Benedictine monasteries in the Low Countries. Van Lokeren, who served as a dedicated municipal archivist, sought to preserve the complex history of the abbey by transcribing and contextualizing primary source documents, spanning from the monastery's seventh-century origins through its formal suppression in the late eighteenth century.

The volume represents the rigorous nineteenth-century tradition of documentary editing, intended to serve as an indispensable reference for medievalists and local historians. Van Lokeren's approach was characterized by a meticulous attention to detail, providing an extensive historical introduction that frames the ecclesiastical and political influence of the abbey within the broader development of the city of Ghent. Upon its release, the work was received as a foundational academic text, essential for those studying the social, religious, and economic fabric of medieval Flanders.
