Where it came from
Released by Dark Horse Comics in 2022, Big City Dreams serves as a narrative expansion within the universe established by the CD Projekt Red video game Cyberpunk 2077. Written by Bartosz Sztybor, the story shifts the focus away from the protagonist of the main game to explore the lives of two scavengers, Tasha and Mirek, who navigate the harsh realities of Night City. The work was created to deepen the world-building of the franchise, emphasizing the human cost of living in a hyper-capitalist, technologically saturated society.
The graphic novel utilizes the visual language of the cyberpunk genre, characterized by high-contrast art and neon-drenched urban decay, to mirror the themes of personal loss and aspiration found in the game. It was developed in close collaboration with the game's creative teams to ensure thematic consistency. Critical reception has highlighted the book for successfully translating the game's aesthetic and cynical atmosphere into the comic book medium, serving as a meaningful companion piece for those invested in the lore of Night City.
