Where it came from
The Witcher: Wild Animals, published by Dark Horse Comics in 2024, represents a continuation of the expanded narrative universe established by CD Projekt Red and Andrzej Sapkowski. Written by Bartosz Sztybor, this standalone limited series was developed to bridge gaps in the Witcher lore, focusing on Geralt of Rivia as he encounters a mysterious group of monster hunters. The story aims to capture the dark, morally complex atmosphere of the source material while exploring themes of isolation and the unintended consequences of the witcher profession.
The visual identity of this volume features illustration by Nataliia Rerekina, who employed a detailed, atmospheric style intended to evoke the gritty aesthetic of the games. By emphasizing the harsh, unforgiving environments of the Continent, the design seeks to immerse the reader in the visceral experience of a monster hunt. Upon its release, the volume was received as a faithful contribution to the canon, praised by fans for maintaining the somber tone that has defined Dark Horse's ongoing stewardship of the Witcher comic franchise.
