Det nationalhistoriske Musaeum paa Frederiksborg Slot

This volume serves as a formal guidebook and historical overview of the Museum of National History, housed within the magnificent Frederiksborg Castle in Hillerød, Denmark. The castle, originally built by King Christian IV in the early 17th century, was transformed into a national museum in 1878 at the initiative of J.C. Jacobsen, the founder of the Carlsberg breweries. The publication was curated to provide visitors and scholars with a comprehensive narrative of Danish history as reflected in the castle's extensive portrait collection, furniture, and decorative arts.

The publication reflects the meticulous curatorial standards of the museum staff and historians tasked with preserving the legacy of the Danish monarchy and aristocracy. Through detailed documentation and photography, the text highlights the castle's role as a monument to national identity, capturing both the architectural splendor of the Dutch Renaissance structure and the shifting historical perspectives that shaped the museum's acquisition policies over the decades. It remains a key reference for understanding the institutional history of one of Scandinavia's most significant cultural landmarks.
