Dick Hamilton's Fortune; Or, the Stirring Doings of a Millionaire's Son

Dick Hamilton's Fortune was published in 1910 as the first volume in the Dick Hamilton series, written by Howard Roger Garis. Garis, perhaps best known for his work on the Uncle Wiggily stories, was a prolific author for the Stratemeyer Syndicate. This series was conceived as a lighthearted, aspirational adventure narrative centered on a protagonist who inherits a fortune, providing a contrast to the more rags-to-riches tropes popularized by Horatio Alger.

The book reflects the early twentieth-century American interest in industrial-age wealth and youthful independence. Designed as wholesome juvenile fiction, the series followed the conventions of the time with straightforward prose and episodic thrills. While it never achieved the sustained cultural saturation of the Hardy Boys or Nancy Drew—also products of the Stratemeyer stable—it remains a notable example of the syndicate's formulaic approach to capturing the attention of adolescent readers through serialized storytelling.
