Where it came from
Double Cops: Justice and Time was crafted by Katsumi Naoto, emerging from the vibrant landscape of late-20th-century seinen manga. It was developed to capitalize on the era's fascination with gritty, high-stakes police procedural dramas, blending conventional crime-fighting narratives with speculative, time-bending mechanics. The series was designed to explore the moral complexities of law enforcement through a lens of recursive consequences and temporal paradoxes.
The visual language of the volume reflects Naoto's signature drafting style, characterized by dense, atmospheric backgrounds and kinetic action sequences. Upon its release, it was noted by critics for its ambitious narrative structure, even as it leaned into the trope-heavy storytelling common to its genre. It remains a recognizable artifact of the period's experimental approach to serialized graphic fiction.
