Where it came from
Dragon Quest: The Great Adventure of Dai - Xross Blade originated as a Japanese arcade card game developed by T-Arts and Square Enix, launched in 2020. It was conceived as a central pillar of the multimedia revival of the classic Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai franchise, which saw a simultaneous remake of its original anime series. The game utilized a unique physical card system that allowed players to summon iconic characters and spells from the Dragon Quest universe to engage in fast-paced, turn-based strategic battles on a digital display.
The character designs and visual aesthetic were heavily influenced by the distinct artistic style of the original manga series created by Sanjo Riku and Koji Inada. The project aimed to bridge the gap between traditional trading card collecting and modern digital gaming, targeting both nostalgic fans of the 1990s series and a younger demographic. Upon its release, it was recognized for its high-quality holographic card art and its role in reintroducing a new generation of players to the lore established by Sanjo Riku’s narrative.
