Where it came from
Ejipuri! is a comedic manga series created by Naoda Tsuboko, first serialized in the late 2000s within the pages of various Japanese manga magazines. The series serves as a whimsical, character-driven parody focusing on the daily lives and antics of deities from Ancient Egyptian mythology reimagined as modern-day students. Tsuboko’s design philosophy leaned into the 'moe' aesthetic, softening the imposing figures of Anubis, Bastet, and others into relatable, cute archetypes to drive humor through the juxtaposition of legendary status and mundane high school struggles.
Upon its release, the series was received as a lighthearted contribution to the then-popular trend of anthropomorphic deity character designs. Tsuboko aimed to create a low-stakes, humorous atmosphere that appealed to fans of four-panel gag manga. While it remained a niche title, it is recognized among collectors for its distinct visual style that bridges the gap between historical reverence and the stylistic tropes of contemporary manga.
