Elisabeth: Shin no te wo Motsu Oujo

Elisabeth: Shin no te wo Motsu Oujo, authored by Hiroki Horie, was published in the early 2000s as a biographical manga centered on the life of Empress Elisabeth of Austria. The series reimagines the historical narrative of the Habsburg monarch through a dramatic, stylized lens, characteristic of manga works that focus on the romanticized and tragic elements of 19th-century European royalty.

Horie Hiroki crafted this series with an emphasis on the psychological interiority of Elisabeth, moving away from traditional historical accounts to explore her identity and struggles within the rigid Viennese court. The illustrative style leans into the aesthetic traditions of historical shojo-adjacent narratives, prioritizing elaborate period costumes and emotional expressions to capture the essence of the empress as a complex, often melancholy figure.
