Where it came from
Extra Existence is a science fiction manga series created by Shiono Etorouji, originally serialized in Square Enix's Young Gangan magazine. The work emerged during a period of prolific output for the author, known for his ability to blend gritty action with intricate, often surreal world-building. The series serves as a testament to his distinct stylistic focus on complex mechanical designs and atmospheric storytelling within the seinen demographic.
The narrative follows a specialized team tasked with addressing anomalies that challenge the boundaries of reality. Shiono Etorouji’s design approach for this volume reflects his characteristic penchant for sharp, high-contrast linework and dense paneling, which emphasizes the tension inherent in the characters' confrontations with the inexplicable. Upon its release, the work was noted by readers for its mature tone and the thematic depth that distinguishes it from more conventional genre entries.
