FANTASMA

Fantasma is a short-lived manga series written and illustrated by Kaku Yuuji, serialized in Shueisha's Jump Square magazine beginning in 2013. The series was Kaku's first major serialized work following his time as an assistant to Tatsuki Fujimoto and Yuji Kaku's established interest in darker, genre-bending storytelling. It presents a stylized, supernatural take on the concept of ghosts and human desires, reflecting the author's early efforts to blend complex character dynamics with fast-paced action sequences.

The design of the series centers on a unique visual aesthetic that emphasizes the ethereal nature of its titular specters, set against a gritty, urban-inspired landscape. While it did not achieve the widespread mainstream success of the author's later hit Hell's Paradise: Jigokuraku, it is regarded by enthusiasts of the mangaka's development as an essential precursor to his later stylistic signatures. The work was generally received as a promising debut that showcased a refined sense of panel composition and a distinct, moody atmospheric tone.
