Where it came from
Omoide Zeikan is a short story collection by Kaku Yuuji, the acclaimed mangaka best known for his series Hell's Paradise: Jigokuraku. Published as a singular volume, the collection serves as a retrospective of Kaku's early creative impulses, gathering various one-shots that showcase his evolving narrative style and thematic interests prior to his widespread mainstream success.
The design and content of the volume reflect Kaku's transition from an assistant to an independent creator, highlighting his ability to blend gritty, surrealist elements with poignant emotional character studies. The work was received by fans as a foundational piece of his bibliography, providing critical insight into the visual motifs and philosophical questions that would eventually define his more expansive projects.
