Where it came from
Final Fantasy VII - The Incomplete is a notable doujinshi work created by the artist Honya Ranko in the years following the 1997 release of the original Final Fantasy VII. Produced within the vibrant Japanese amateur manga scene, it serves as a non-official, fan-authored exploration of the game’s narrative and characters, reflecting the intense cultural impact and complex lore that fueled widespread fan creative output during the late 1990s.
The work is recognized for Honya Ranko’s distinct artistic interpretation, which often leaned into the more comedic or parodic elements of the source material. By focusing on the gaps or 'incomplete' aspects of the game’s dense storytelling, the collection resonated with fans seeking a lighthearted expansion of the PlayStation-era classic. It remains a representative example of how underground creator communities helped sustain the longevity and popularity of the franchise during its rise to global prominence.
