Where it came from
Fukumenkei Noise, known in English as Anonymous Noise, began serialization in Hakusensha's Hana to Yume magazine in 2013. Created by manga artist Ryoko Fukuyama, the series explores themes of unrequited love and music, centered on a young girl named Nino who uses a mask to hide her identity while singing to cope with past emotional trauma. The narrative is heavily influenced by the garage rock subculture and the emotional catharsis found in performance.
Fukuyama’s illustrative style is characterized by expressive, high-energy character designs and dynamic panel layouts that attempt to visually translate the sensation of sound and shouting. The series was well-received for its intense emotional stakes and specific focus on the mechanics of music production, eventually spawning both an anime adaptation and a live-action film, reflecting its status as a significant title within the shoujo music-drama genre.
