Where it came from
The Gekijouban FAIRY TAIL Joshou: Hajimari no Asa is a special prologue volume released to accompany the 2012 theatrical debut of Fairy Tail the Movie: Phoenix Priestess. Created by series author Hiro Mashima, the volume serves as a short prequel story that provides narrative context for the film, bridging the gap between the weekly serialized manga and the cinematic release. It follows the established artistic style of the main series while focusing on a self-contained mission that highlights the dynamic between Natsu and Lucy.
Designed as a promotional piece, the volume was distributed to early cinema attendees in Japan, making it a significant collector's item for fans of the franchise. Mashima aimed to capture the energetic and lighthearted spirit of his long-running manga within a concise format. The work was well-received by the community as a thoughtful addition to the film's lore, effectively expanding the world-building of the Fairy Tail universe without distracting from the primary plot of the feature film.
