Where it came from
Gekka no Ichigun, authored by the late Yoshino Sakumi, is a foundational work in the 1980s shōjo manga landscape. Originally serialized in Shueisha's Ribon magazine, the series emerged during a period of creative experimentation within the genre, where authors began to push beyond traditional romantic tropes toward more nuanced, atmospheric, and character-driven narratives.
Yoshino Sakumi was known for her distinct, fluid artistic style and her ability to weave introspective themes into her storytelling. Gekka no Ichigun is widely regarded by scholars and readers of the era as a quintessential example of her aesthetic, characterized by an emphasis on emotional interiority and delicate, expressive linework that helped define the sophisticated tone of the 'Year 24 Group' successors.
